A memorandum of understanding on cooperation has been signed between the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and the Holy See’s “Bambino Gesu” Pediatric Hospital, APA reports.

The signing took place within the framework of the visit of Anar Alakbarov, Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Executive Director of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, to the Holy See. The document was signed by the President’s assistant, Executive Director of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Anar Alakbarov, and the head of the “Bambino Gesu” hospital, Tiziano Onesti.

Within the framework of the memorandum of understanding, it is planned to implement training programs with Europe’s largest pediatric medical institution, conduct joint research in molecular genetics and personalized medical approaches, as well as jointly diagnose and treat complex clinical cases that cannot be treated in Azerbaijan with “Bambino Gesu.” The main areas of cooperation include enhancing the professional knowledge and skills of medical workers in pediatrics in Azerbaijan, organizing joint scientific and clinical activities in molecular genetics, clinical diagnostics, and rare diseases, as well as expanding the application of genomic diagnostics and personalized medical approaches in the country.

Founded in 1869, the “Bambino Gesu” hospital is currently the largest pediatric hospital and research center in Europe, and one of the authorized European centers for performing all types of pediatric organ, cell, and tissue transplants. The hospital also serves as the Italian headquarters of “Orphanet,” the largest global database for rare diseases, which involves participation from over 40 countries.
