Azerbaijan is participating in the 28th Congress of the Universal Postal Union (UPU), the supreme decision-making body, held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, APA-Economics reports.
Congress, held every 4 years, elects the Director General and Deputy Director General of the UPU International Bureau, as well as the Chairman and members of the Postal Operations Council and the Administrative Council. This year, Azerbaijan has nominated its candidacy for membership in two councils of the bureau.
Before the elections, Azerbaijan organized an event to strengthen international relations, establish cooperation and better introduce our country.
The event was attended by high-ranking representatives of the UPU, the European Postal Organization, as well as other postal organizations from more than 150 countries. Masahiko Metoki, Director General of the Universal Postal Union, informed the participants of the event about Azerbaijan's candidacy for membership in the Postal Operations Council and the Administrative Council. He highly appreciated Azerbaijan's active cooperation with the organization.
It was noted at the ceremony that Azerbaijan attaches special importance to the development of relations in the field of postal operations and the application of standards. Our country is applying modern and innovative approaches in this field.
The event presented examples reflecting the rich cultural heritage of our country to the participants. They had the opportunity to get acquainted with the ancient history, colorful culture and traditions of hospitality of Azerbaijan.
