Relations between Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan are at a very high level today and demonstrate mutual trust in terms of both political and strategic cooperation, Rustam Bektrumov, ethnomediator at the Kazakh Institute of Applied Ethnopolitical Research told APA’s correspondent dispatched to Astana.
According to him, the foundation of these relations is based on the principles of friendship, brotherhood, and mutual respect: “These relations can be observed in various directions. First, this is the trade turnover between the two countries. In just the period from January to August 2025, the trade turnover amounted to approximately 540 million US dollars, which is about three times more compared to the same period last year. This is a very important indicator. Additionally, the volume of mutual investment projects is also significant. Alongside this, cultural and educational ties are actively developing.”
The ethnomediator noted that one of the largest projects is cooperation in the field of transport and logistics: “One of the main initiatives in this direction is being carried out within the framework of the Middle Corridor (Trans-Caspian International Transport Route). Azerbaijan plays the role of the main logistics center on this route, while Kazakhstan actively participates as a key link in the Central Asia region. The corridor starts from China and extends towards Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Türkiye, and towards Europe. This holds great strategic and economic significance for the region. Thanks to the project, the volume of logistics and investments will further increase. The second important direction is digitalization. Currently, both Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan are actively implementing reforms in this field. In particular, the process of digital integration in the logistics sector continues, and joint digital project integration between the two countries is envisaged in this direction.”
He noted that the project of laying an optical fiber cable between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan via the Caspian Sea is also being implemented.
“This project will be of great importance not only for the two countries but also for the entire Central Asia region. Thanks to this project, there will be broad access opportunities not only to Azerbaijan but to all of Europe. Alongside these main projects, cultural and fraternal ties, as well as close cooperation relations within platforms such as the Turkic States Organization, TURKSOY, and TURKPA, continue at the highest level. Azerbaijanis living in Kazakhstan are also a living example of this friendship,” he concluded.
