Azerbaijan joins agreement on rescue and return of astronauts

Azerbaijan is joining the Agreement on the Rescue of Astronauts, APA reports.

A draft law on the matter was discussed at today’s session of the Milli Majlis.

The draft law on accession to the “Agreement on the Rescue of Astronauts, the Return of Astronauts, and the Return of Objects Launched into Outer Space” defines the obligations of a party that receives information about an accident involving a spacecraft crew, as well as an emergency or unexpected landing, and provides for the effective regulation of relations that may arise in this field. The Agreement sets out a number of important provisions regulating the provision of all possible assistance to astronauts, their immediate and safe return, and related matters. It establishes an obligation to take all possible measures for the spacecraft crew in the event of an accident, disaster, emergency, or unexpected landing, and requires the Contracting Parties to immediately inform the Secretary-General of the United Nations of such incidents. Other provisions of the Agreement regulate procedures for implementing technical, administrative, and rescue measures arising from the above-mentioned issues, as well as procedures for signing and ratification, amendments to the text of the Agreement, the authenticity of the texts, and other related matters.

The draft law was put to a vote and adopted in the first reading.
