Chinese tourist arrivals to Azerbaijan up nearly 50% under visa-free travel

“During President Ilham Aliyev’s visit to China, an Agreement on the mutual exemption from visa requirements for holders of ordinary passports of the two countries was signed. Within the framework of the visa-free regime, tourist flows have increased significantly,” said Lu Mei, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Azerbaijan, during her speech at the annual press conference for 2025, APA reports.

According to the ambassador, from January to October, the number of Chinese tourists visiting Azerbaijan exceeded 57,000 people, which is approximately 50 percent more compared to the same period last year.

The ambassador noted that interest in the Chinese language and culture among Azerbaijani youth continues to grow, and more universities are opening Chinese language programs: “Mutual visits among universities, think tanks, media outlets, and cultural organizations are expanding, and interregional cooperation is deepening.”

Lu Mei emphasized that these exchanges serve to further strengthen mutual understanding and friendship between the peoples.
