Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has described the attempted assassination of Lieutenant General Vladimir Alekseyev, Deputy Head of the Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU) of the Russian Armed Forces, as an attempt to derail negotiations, APA’s Moscow bureau reports.
Lavrov said the attempted attack on General Alekseyev once again confirms Kyiv’s determination to constantly disrupt talks.
The Russian foreign minister said he learned about the incident at the beginning of a meeting with the leadership of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe: “I am not going to make any forecasts. This is not my function. This will be decided by the leadership of our country.”
Lavrov described the incident as a terrorist act.
