Trump says US had ‘very good’ talks with Iran, next round to be held early next week

United States President Donald Trump stated Iran wants to make a deal with the US while speaking to reporters on Air Force One following US-Iran nuclear talks in Oman on Friday, APA reports, citing JP.

The Omani-mediated Muscat talks were attended by US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner, US Central Command (CENTCOM) head Adm. Brad Cooper, and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Trump confirmed.

Trump stated that the US delegation has "very good talks going with Iran" and announced that the officials are "going to meet again early next week."

"They want to make a deal," Trump said of Iran, adding that Tehran's leadership knows that "if they don’t make a deal, the consequences will be very steep."

Timeline-wise, Trump stated that the two nations "are in no rush" to reach an understanding and that the US has to get "in position" for an agreement, but that he'd "love to see" a deal made.

He additionally asserted that, regardless of other terms that may be included in a potential future deal, Iran will be allowed "no nuclear weapons."

According to the US president, Iran was not willing to submit to that term in previous talks but is now "willing to do much more than they would have a year and a half ago."
