Germany plans to take part in mine-clearing operation in Strait of Hormuz

Germany plans to participate in a mine-clearing operation in the Strait of Hormuz, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said in an interview with Rheinische Post.

He stated that if an international mission is established, Germany will join it and take part in ensuring navigation security in the Strait of Hormuz.

“The deployment of military forces to the Strait of Hormuz can only take place after receiving a mandate from parliament,” the minister emphasized.

Pistorius added that, in order to save time, a decision has already been made to send some forces to the Mediterranean Sea: “We are doing this so that when the mandate is granted, we are ready and do not lose time.”

It should be noted that a number of countries have already expressed interest in participating in ensuring navigation security and mine-clearing operations in the Strait of Hormuz after an agreement is reached between the United States and Iran.
