Official Baku: Azerbaijan does not aim to take sides between Iran and Israel

Since restoring its independence, Azerbaijan has always pursued a multifaceted, pragmatic foreign policy based on national interests and has established bilateral relations with other countries—including Iran and Israel—based on mutual respect, sovereignty, and shared interests, said Ambassador Elchin Amirbayov, Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on Special Assignments, in an interview with the French editorial office of I24 News television channel, APA reports.

Elchin Amirbayov noted that Azerbaijan’s goal is not to take sides in the context of differing views between these countries, but rather to play a constructive role and, where possible, contribute to mutual understanding between them: “We firmly believe that regional tensions should not hinder dialogue, and secret diplomacy can sometimes open unexpected paths toward de-escalation. It is in this spirit that we act—cautiously, balanced, and responsibly.”

The Representative of the President on Special Assignments also commented on the developments in Gaza.

“The two-state solution remains, in our eyes, like many international actors, a reliable and sustainable basis for a just peace between Israelis and Palestinians. The ongoing conflict in Gaza makes this solution more distant and fragile, but it does not eliminate its relevance. On the contrary, this tragedy reminds us of the urgency of a political solution through negotiations based on international law and the security and dignity of all. The role of the international community is to actively support any credible initiative in this direction,” Elchin Amirbayov emphasized.
