European Commission to consider additional measures against Georgia

The European Commission will consider additional measures to encourage the Georgian authorities to return to a democratic path, said Anitta Hipper, spokesperson for the European Commission on Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, APA’s local bureau reports.

According to her, there are no signs of improvement in Georgia in terms of democracy, freedom, and the values supported by the European Union.

“In Georgia, no signs of progress are observed in the current situation regarding either civil society or freedom of expression. As for the political context, we have downgraded the level of political relations with Georgia. We have also suspended all direct assistance to the Georgian government and abolished the visa-free travel regime for diplomats, senior officials, and their family members,” Anitta Hipper added.
