Berlin to avoid military operations around Strait of Hormuz, Pistorius states

Germany will not take part in military operations around the Strait of Hormuz while the conflict in the Middle East continues, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, who is on a visit to Australia, said at a press conference, APA reports.

According to him, Berlin may consider joining operations to ensure maritime security only after a ceasefire or peace is achieved.

“We will not participate in military operations in this region while the war continues. If peace is achieved, we may consider the issue of ensuring the safety of shipping in the Strait of Hormuz,” Pistorius said.

The minister also expressed concern about the course of the conflict.

“The biggest problem is that there are no consultations, no strategy, and no clear objective. The worst part is the absence of an exit plan,” he stressed.

Pistorius added that the U.S. approach toward its allies has changed and that Washington has not held sufficient consultations with European countries.
