Azerbaijan prevents 40 kg of drugs from being smuggled from Iran -PHOTO

An attempt to smuggle a large quantity of narcotic substances into the country has been prevented,  the Press Center of the State Border Service told APA.

Efforts to ensure reliable protection of the state border and to combat the illegal circulation of narcotic substances, psychotropic substances, and their precursors are successfully continuing.

On August 15, in the service area of the “Lankaran” border detachment of the Border Troops of the State Border Service, an attempt to violate the state border from the Islamic Republic of Iran in the direction of the Republic of Azerbaijan was prevented.

As a result of border search and operational measures carried out, a total of 40 kilograms and 900 grams of narcotic substances (37 kg 900 g of marijuana, 3 kg of opium) and 5,000 methadone M-40 tablets containing narcotic substances were detected and seized from the service area.

Operational-investigative measures on the fact are ongoing.
