Volodymyr Kreidenko: Transparent use of international financial aid is a key responsibility of parliaments

The transparent use of international financial support is a key task of the parliament, Volodymyr Kreidenko, member of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, said during the roundtable titled “Translating Urban Commitments into National Action: The Parliamentary Path to Housing for All” organized within the framework of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) held in Baku, APA-Economics reports.

He stated that one of the main responsibilities of parliaments is to ensure the transparent and responsible use of international financial support.

V. Kreidenko noted that housing policy in Ukraine should produce real results especially for internally displaced persons, persons with disabilities and large families.

According to him, parliaments should exercise strict oversight over the use of funds attracted from international partners so that citizens can clearly see which projects are being implemented and what results are being achieved.

The parliamentarian stated that for this purpose, open state registries, digital monitoring systems for the reconstruction process, transparent procedures for compensation payments, independent audits and regular accountability of the government to parliament are important.

V. Kreidenko stressed that housing policy is not only a matter of construction, but also an issue of security, accessibility and inclusiveness.

He added that post-war reconstruction in Ukraine should be carried out based on the “build back better” principle.
