Presidential aide: Azerbaijan delegation’s visit to Armenia was a historic event

"The visit of the Azerbaijani delegation to Armenia was a historic event," Hikmat Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration, said during his speech before representatives of the diplomatic corps at Karabakh University, APA reports.

He noted that Azerbaijan and Armenia are moving toward peace and that international partners should not return the region to old narratives: “We call on all our partners to support our peace agenda. Attempts to return the region to old narratives are not useful and produce the opposite effect.”

Hikmat Hajiyev stated that a new status quo has been formed in the South Caucasus and that this reality is based on the norms and principles of international law, as well as historical justice.

He particularly highlighted the visit of the Azerbaijani delegation to Armenia.

“Yesterday and the day before, another historic moment took place in Armenia-Azerbaijan relations. The Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan paid a semi-official visit to the Republic of Armenia. Both sides held intergovernmental discussions in various directions,” the presidential aide said.

According to him, the discussions covered economic and trade relations, political dialogue, border delimitation, and border cooperation issues.

Hikmat Hajiyev added that the delivery of transit cargo to Armenia via Azerbaijan is already becoming a new reality: “Yesterday, certain goods were delivered to Armenia via transit through Azerbaijani territory. This is already a new norm and a new reality.”

He noted that the business communities of the two countries are also working on cooperation in the import of certain products: “The resolution of the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan ensures broader security and stability for both countries.”

Hikmat Hajiyev added that a new life is being built in Karabakh and the region is developing rapidly: “Today we are at Karabakh University. We see young faces here. Khankendi is gaining a new image and a new life.”
